Fridley is sparking a mysterious new art movement that is taking over Twin Cities coffee shops. If you’ve grabbed a latte in Minneapolis or Saint Paul recently, you might have noticed strange, captivating pieces of interpretive art gracing the walls. This is “The ART of MAGIC,” a community art project designed to make you question reality over your morning brew.

The concept was conceived by Brad “MagicBrad” Gudim, a well-known local magician, entrepreneur, and perceptionist. What started as a spark of an idea in Fridley, Minnesota, has quickly billowed into a metro-wide phenomenon, blending the visual arts with the world of illusion.
Brewing Illusions: What is “The ART of MAGIC”?
“The ART of MAGIC” challenges local artists to visually interpret the abstract concept of magic, mysticism, and the unexplained. Rather than standard portraits of rabbits pulling out of top hats, the galleries feature deeply abstract, surreal, and interpretive works.
The project strategically uses neighborhood coffee shops as its canvas, transforming everyday community hubs into interactive spaces of wonder.
From Fridley to the Twin Cities
While the exhibit is currently expanding across Minneapolis and Saint Paul cafes, its roots belong to Fridley. As a perceptionist, MagicBrad wanted to find a way to shift public perception and disrupt the monotony of daily life. By placing thought-provoking, magic-themed art in high-traffic community spaces, the project forces viewers to pause, look closer, and rediscover a sense of childhood wonder.
Where to Find It
Keep your eyes peeled during your next caffeine fix. Participating coffee shops rotate their displays, offering a fresh experience with every visit. Each piece features a small QR code, allowing patrons to learn more about the local artist’s interpretation of the supernatural and even connect with MagicBrad’s broader community vision.
Next time you are in a Twin Cities cafe, put down your phone, look at the walls, and let yourself be tricked—even if just for a moment.
