Here is how my friend and fellow world traveler, Matt Morris (The Unemployed Millionaire) got 6-Pack Abs in 90 Days!
The 6 Golden Rules
- Do Cardio Workouts for 20-60 minutes 5-6 times/week
First things first, you must burn fat so people can see those abs. This does not have to be running. Think of activities you enjoy that get you winded…. typically, that’s cardio workouts (exercises that keep your heart rate up for an extended period of time). A 2 hour hike can burn around 800 calories. Hop on a bike at the gym for 30 minutes. When in doubt, get on the treadmill on an incline! You’d be surprised what a little incline can do to your calorie burn. Click on “How Do I Get 6 Pack Abs“ for a list of some great cardio exercises.
- Drink More Water Every Day
Drink 8 oz as soon as you wake up. 64-128 oz a day is a necessity. A little tip: add ice. It requires more calories to drink ice cold water than room temperature water. Why not burn calories for drinking water!
- 30/30 Rule When You Wake Up
Eat breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up and make sure it includes a minimum of 30 grams of protein! This not only kickstarts your metabolism; the protein keeps you full longer, avoiding that after breakfast sugar crash!
- More Protein
You must consume protein with every meal. Your goal is 1 gram of protein per 1 pound of body weight every day. So, if you weigh 165 pounds, you need to find a way to eat 165 grams of protein. I promise you that if you do this, you won’t be hungry AND you won’t want carbs. Click on “How Do I Get 6 Pack Abs“ to view high protein options. Others include protein shakes and protein bars. Always watch the sugar and carb levels in those, though, It can be deceiving.
- You CAN Eat After Dark!
Yep! You read that right. Eat as many proteins and vegetables as you like. Here’s the rule… Do NOT eat any carbs after dark. They turn to sugar and are stored as fat.
- Weight Training
This should be done 3-6 times per week. For some good ideas on what weight training exercises make sense for you, click on “How Do I Get 6 Pack Abs”. This link provides a variety of workout routines with varied goals. You should focus on strength and endurance and NOT building mass at this time. After you get lean (As a reminder, the point of this blog is How Do I get 6 Pack Abs), then you can focus on adding muscle mass. Don’t worry, women! You do not have to gain muscle mass just by lifting weights. The link above breaks out some great routines for you too!
